Supporters of Strong Human Trafficking Law Will Rally in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — June 25, 2010 — California Against Slavery will host a rally in Sacramento, Calif., on June 28, 2010, to call for stronger human trafficking laws in California and stress the growing problem of human trafficking in the state.

Location: State Capitol West Steps on 10th Street by L Street, Sacramento, Calif.
(Change from previous announcement: The event will no longer start with a march from Raley Field)

Daphne Phung, executive director of California Against Slavery
Jenny Williamson, founder of Courage to Be You
Nola Brantley, executive director and founder of MISSSEY
Randy Harrell, senior pastor of New City Church
Music from Tony Savo Band and Krista White
Afterwards, participants of the rally will visit the offices of California state legislators to call for stronger human trafficking laws in California.
“Human trafficking is a criminal business that profits from enslaving people for sexual servitude and forced labor. It is flourishing in California because the law is weak,” said Daphne Phung, executive director of California Against Slavery. “There is an urgent need for laws that would provide stiffer measures to stop traffickers, better protection for human trafficking victims, and greater funding for organizations that serve human trafficking victims. We are calling all Californians to speak up at the rally. Let’s make a big deal of a big issue.”
