This summer, I am walking on behalf of over 100,000 children (mostly girls) who are sold for sex in the U.S. each and every year. They are first sold at the average age of 12-14.

A trafficker makes up to $600,000 a year by selling 4 girls at once, but faces less risk than a drug dealer in California today. High profits and weak laws have fueled the sex trade of children on our streets and the internet in our communities. California needs more stringent laws that will hold the criminals accountable, take away the profits, and recognize the severe abuse and torture on these children.

The California Against Slavery initiative isn’t about changing one piece of legislation – it’s about changing culture! The initiative will not only give California stiffer laws to fight human trafficking, it will force Californians to *collectively* confront a hideous issue that is real in every community.
