SUMMARY:Past is Present: The historical effects of the sex trade on women and girls of color today with: Cherice Hopkins (Rights4Girls)
DESCRIPTION:We cannot discuss the sex trade in the U.S. without addressing colonization\, slavery\, and the institutionalized inter-generational oppression of women and girls. Ignoring this history has led to the continued exploitation\, and too often criminalization\, of women and girls of color. Cherice Hopkins\, Staff Attorney at Rights4Girls will discuss the racial and gender disparities among survivors\, how to disrupt the criminalization of survivors\, and how to promote survivor-centered accountability for exploiters. In “Past is present: The historical effects of the sex trade on women and girls of color today\,” Cherice Hopkins\, Staff Attorney at Rights4Girls\, will discuss the racial and gender disparities among survivors\, how to disrupt the criminalization of survivors\, and how to promote survivor-centered accountability for exploiters.

SUMMARY:For Advocates: Using Technology to Communicate with Survivors During the COVID-19 Pandemic Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is meant for front-line advocates who are navigating using technology to continue providing support to survivors. Whether answering hotline calls\, hosting online support groups\, or facilitating a forum discussion; this webinar will look at the challenges and opportunities raised by tele/online-support services. Many of the skills needed are those advocates already have — we’ll look at how the existing skills of empathy and active listening translate to online spaces. We’ll also explore considerations for ensuring informed consent\, prioritizing privacy and confidentiality\, and maintaining tech security. \nPriority registration will be given to Office of Crime Victims Advocacy (OCVA) sexual assault services and prevention grantees [and Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Program (WCSAP) members]. All other registrants will be admitted on a space available basis. Registration is subject to the approval of WCSAP. \nRegistration opens April 21\, 12:00 pm and closes May 7\, 10:30 am.
