SUMMARY:Now & Next Online Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:The Movement is the Message: Messaging and communication to change hearts\, minds and laws about commercial sexual exploitation\nPresented b: Anne K. Ream (The Voices and Faces Project)\n\n\nSocial movements are fueled by many factors. Strategic messaging is one of the most critical. But what makes for effective communications strategy? And how can we most effectively use our own voices and stories to create lasting social change? \nDuring “The Movement is the Message” presentation\, Anne K. Ream\, founder of The Voices and Faces Project\, will consider strategies for using personal narrative to create political change … think in new ways about how language and word choice can break through partisan barriers in our politically polarized era… explore ways that we can each discover our own\, truly unique “change styles” … and showcase a handful of history’s and today’s most effective strategic storytellers\, with an emphasis on the gender justice movement. A former Senior Vice President and Group Creative Director at Leo Burnett Worldwide\, Anne is passionate about using strategic messaging and storytelling to create social change. And creating lasting change is what “The Movement is the Message” is all about. \n“The Movement is the Message” is part of Marketing a Movement\, a communications workshop series created in partnership with Brew Communications and through the support of NoVo Foundation. \n\n\nRegister

DESCRIPTION:Equal Not Exploited: A survivor-driven agenda for ending commercial sexual exploitation.\n\n\nCreating a world in which no person is bought\, sold or exploited starts with listening to survivors of the sex trade. On December 10\, nine extraordinary movement leaders will come together to share their perspectives on the harms caused by commercial sexual exploitation\, discuss the ways that race\, class and income inequality fuel the sex trade\, and make an impassioned case for the Equality Model\, which seeks to protect the rights of those who have been exploited while holding traffickers\, exploiters and buyers accountable for the harms that they cause. \nAt World Without Exploitation\, we are committed to listening and being led by these necessary and knowledgeable movement voices. Join us on December 10 to better understand both the pain and the power that drives our survivor leadership. SUMMARY:Now & Next Online Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Indigenous Survivors Speak Out\nPresented By: Jeri Moomaw (Innovations Human Trafficking Collective)\, Sandi Pierce (Innovations Human Trafficking Collective)\, Christine Stark (Author)\nData about the sex trafficking of Indigenous women and girls in the United States had been woefully lacking. That changed over a decade ago\, with the publication of two research reports: Garden of Truth: The Prostitution & Trafficking of Native Women in Minnesota (2011) and Shattered Hearts: The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of American Indian Women and Girls in Minnesota (2009). \nThose reports exposed\, for the first time and in great detail\, the extent of sex trafficking within the population of Indigenous women and girls\, and how that trafficking impacts them. During “Indigenous Survivors Speak Out\,” Christine Stark and Sandi Pierce\, both Indigenous sex trafficking survivors who played critical roles in the reports’ creation\, and Jeri Moomaw\, an Indigenous sex trafficking survivor who works with legal authorities\, tribes and urban Indian organizations to ensure that those critical services are available to Indigenous victims and survivors in the Pacific Northwest\, will discuss the historical factors that continue to cause high rates of sexual violence and sexual exploitation among Indigenous women in the U.S. and Canada. They will also speak to the structure and processes of trafficking operations targeting Indigenous peoples and the ways that trauma-informed\, strength-based support services can best incorporate traditional cultures to promote the healing and well-being of victims and survivors. \nRegister

SUMMARY:NBC7 San Diego STOLEN Documentary Series Debut
DESCRIPTION:From NBC 7 comes STOLEN; an expansive documentary series about sex trafficking and the exploitation of children in San Diego County and beyond. \nTold from multiple perspectives\, STOLEN explains why the illicit child sex market thrives in San Diego County and across the U.S.\, while chronicling the strength of survivors\, their families\, and advocates working to break that destructive cycle and reclaim their stolen lives. \nUnderstand the issue in a new way by hearing the jailhouse recordings of a convicted trafficker manipulating two teen girls into selling themselves online.  The tapes led to an NBC7 investigation exposing gaps in the justice system that allow people who pay to sexually assault children to face little to no consequences. \nThe seven-episode documentary series is the product of a year-long investigation that includes exclusive interviews and\, for the first time ever\, substantial proof of the scope of the problem in San Diego County schools. And as a global pandemic shifts the education system into a virtual space\, experts warn of exploiters targeting children online\, now more than ever before. \nClick the link to watch the trailer\, view episodes 1-7\, and learn how to keep the conversation going.
