SUMMARY:Strategies to Enhance Employee Resilience and Engagement within Survivor-Serving Organizations
DESCRIPTION:Employee turn-over is a challenge faced by many organizations\, particularly organizations that serve survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Frequent staff changes can disrupt the quality of and capacity to serve the community and can impact an organization’s sustainability and sense of cohesion.  What strategies can survivor centered organizations utilize to attract and engage staff\, mitigate burnout\, and build strength and collective resilience? This webinar will feature representatives of three organizations that serve survivors of violence and trauma who will share strategies that they use to increase employee engagement as well as improve services for survivors. Facilitators will also discuss some strategies they have incorporated to help staff adapt and manage during this extraordinary public health crisis. \nAfter this webinar\, participants will be better able to: \n\nExamine your organization’s strengths and areas for improvement as to its ability to attract and support staff;\nIdentify strategies to attract\, support and continue to engage employees within organizations that serve survivors of violence and trauma;\nUtilize tools and resources to attract and continue to engage employees; and\nDiscuss tips to address the needs of employees during the current health crisis.\n\nWho should participate? \nExecutive Directors\, Program Directors/Managers/Coordinators\, Supervisors\, and Team Leaders in OVW funded projects. \nPresenters: \nKelly Miller\, Executive Director\, Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence is a national presenter on movement building to end gender violence\, youth engagement\, accessibility and intersectionality in our work. Before joining the Idaho Coalition\, Kelly represented girls and women who were impacted by violence and individuals with disabilities as an attorney with Legal Aid Society and an assistant prosecutor in a felony domestic violence/sexual assault unit in Louisville\, Kentucky\, and as Deputy Director with Idaho Legal Aid Services. Kelly and her partner Bob have two strong capable daughters Logan and Hunter. \nLisa Fleming\, MSW\, Chief Operating Officer\, Rose Brooks Center has 29 years of domestic violence advocacy\, leadership and program development experience. Under her leadership\, Rose Brooks Center established a hospital-based advocacy program\, a school-based violence prevention program\, the Center’s transitional and rapid re-housing programs\, a lethality assessment program for first responders\, and a shelter for survivors’ pets. Areas of expertise and experience include accessibility and responsiveness to survivors with disabilities\, voluntary service and low barrier rules model in residential and housing programs\, trauma informed care\, and organizational response to secondary trauma. \nVanisa Tabakovic\, Executive Director\, Tapestri came to the United States as a refugee in 1996 from war torn Bosnia. Mrs. Tabakovic joined Tapestri as Domestic Violence Legal Advocate in 2004. Tapestri advocates for immigrant and refugee families affected by domestic violence\, sexual assault\, and exploitation. She previously worked for Refugee Family Services as the Domestic Violence Program Manager and has been working with refugees and immigrants in the domestic violence field since 1999. In 2001\, she was recognized by Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence for her dedication to the work of increasing safety for women.  In 2012 Vanisa received the Refugee Woman of the year award from Refugee Women’s Network. In 2015 Vanisa received scholarship for a summer program at Harvard Business School and she successfully completed “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management.” Vanisa also holds certification in Nonprofit Organization Management. \nFacilitators: \nJennifer White & Monica Arenas\, Futures Without Violence

Because of the lucrative and clandestine nature of trafficking\, traffickers often exploit multiple victims concurrently. SUMMARY:Remote Home Visitation: Supporting clients experiencing Intimate Partner Violence in the Time of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Given the COVID 19 pandemic\, and the shift to virtual home visitation\, we recognize that is very difficult for home visitors to determine client safety\, confidentiality and promote healthy relationships.  The “shelter-in-place” recommendations for communities can increase the risks for survivors of Domestic Violence (DV)/Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and their children. The lack of privacy for conversations and heightened isolation makes it difficult to assess the home environment and figure out if coercion and abuse are happening to a client. \nThis webinar is dedicated to evolving promising practices for home visitors within a virtual space to help caregivers who may be experiencing coercion and abuse from their partner\, and to help them and their children be safer – but offered virtually. \nDuring the session\, we will be reviewing how power and control issues may look different within the ‘shelter-in-place’ situation and how these policies might prevent clients from being able to disclose abuse or reach out for help.  Talking about healthy and unhealthy relationships and how to help friends and family is a strategy that builds stronger client relationships and allows survivors to hear about resources and ways to promote safety without disclosure of IPV.  The intervention strategies we will be sharing are adapted for virtual home visitation settings for staff to use with caregivers. \nHowever\, when disclosures happen\, the goal is to understand the survivor’s perspective and priorities\, and work collaboratively with the client to strengthen their safety plan – building on strategies that they have used in the past\, and to connect with the National Domestic Violence hotline or local domestic violence advocacy programs for ongoing systemic advocacy\, problem-solving around safer planning and available resources including possible financial assistance. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand evolving practices and challenges around virtual home visits and IPV.\nLearn CUES\, a trauma-informed evidenced-based intervention\, to address domestic violence\, adapted for virtual home visits.\nLearn about virtual safer planning strategies during heightened isolation and advocacy resources.\n\nSpeakers:  \nRebecca Levenson\, former Senior Policy Analyst for FUTURES turned consultant and co-author of FUTURES’ Curricula Healthy Moms Happy Babies: An Evidence-Based Approach to Addressing Domestic Violence In Home Visitation and Perinatal Case Management Programs. \nLeigh Hofheimer\, Program Coordinator\, Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

DESCRIPTION:This webinar will review human trafficking risk factors related to the COVID-19 crisis. The presenters\, Dr. Paola Contreras and Ms. Stacy Reed\, will begin by providing an overview of human trafficking in the United States. \nUsing examples from their work with victims and survivors of trafficking\, they will explain how the risk of exploitation increases with contextual stressors\, such as the current health crisis. The presentation will close with a review of practice recommendations and local and national human trafficking resources to assist victims and survivors. \nPaola M. Contreras\, PsyD\, is an Assistant Professor at William James College’s Counseling Department. She directs the Forensic and Correctional Counseling emphasis and is the lead researcher of the Human Trafficking Community Research Hub. She is RIA House’s clinical supervisor where she works with a team of providers and peer-mentors that engage people with experience in the commercial sex trade and its associated exploitation\, trafficking\, and prostitution. \nStacy Reed\, MSW\, is an author\, poet\, and supervisor of the peer mentorship program at RIA House. Stacy is a survivor professional who has traveled internationally with 20 plus years of experience working with people living with alcoholism\, substance use disorders\, prostitution\, sex exploitation\, domestic violence\, mental health and HIV/AIDS. She is a dedicated and passionate woman who helps others move past challenging experiences for the betterment of their quality of life. \nThis webinar is hosted by the Center for Multicultural & Global Mental Health at William James College in Newton\, MA.

SUMMARY:Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Male and LGBTQIA+ Youth
DESCRIPTION:2-hour virtual human trafficking training for professionals engaging with male or LGBTQIA+ opportunity youth at risk for sexual exploitation \nDuring this workshop\, engaged participants will learn how to develop culturally relevant strategies to more effectively engage with male and/or LGBTQIA+ opportunity youth victimized by commercial sexual exploitation\, and those at-risk. \nNational research shows that male-idnetifying youth can make up as many as half of all child sex trafficking victims. LGBTQIA+ youth experiencing homelessness also experience disproportionate victimization. Continued challenges exist\, however\, in local efforts to not only identify these youth\, but how to effectively engage and connect them with trauma-informed\, client-driven services. \nThe facilitator will address misconceptions regarding the intersectionality of male-identifying youth regarding sexual orientation and gender expression. The audience will learn how toxic norms around masculinity\, homophobia\, transphobia and gender-biases create and sustain pathways to exploitation. More importantly\, however\, active participants will learn how to engage these youths in more culturally-relevant ways\, that when applied holistically\, have been proven to divert future criminal involvement\, and other unhealthy behaviors. \nAttendees will understand the intersectionality between human trafficking / exploitation and natural disasters\, such as COVID-19\, and discuss ways to mitigate increased risks for further exploitation.

DESCRIPTION:The 36th Annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment will address a range of important multidisciplinary topics in the fields of child maltreatment\, human trafficking and domestic violence.  The Pre-Conference Institutes will be January 23rd-24th\, 2021 and the Main Conference will be January 25th-28th\, 2021. \nThe objective of the San Diego Conference is to develop and enhance professional skills and knowledge in the prevention\, recognition\, assessment and treatment of all forms of maltreatment including those related to family violence as well as to enhance investigative and legal skills. Issues concerning support for families\, prevention\, leadership\, policy making\, secondary and translating the latest research into action are also addressed. \nTo submit an abstract for proposal\, please visit https://www.cvent.com/c/abstracts/7e27bfe7-eef7-4257-bb4c-8c99bded92c9.  The Submission Deadline is April 13\,2020! \nWe are inviting proposals for workshop/interactive sessions addressing one of the following topics (click here for more information): \n\nChild Welfare\nDomestic Violence\nEarly Childhood Mental Health\nForensic Interview\nGlobal Perspectives\nInvestigations\nLegal\nMedical for Medical Professionals\nMedical for the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)\nMental Health/Trauma Counseling\nPrevention & Family Strengthening\nScientific Sessions (Research)\nSecondary Traumatic Stress\nTrauma Informed Systems\nVictim Support and Advocacy\n\nSubmissions are reviewed by a speaker selection committee based on 1) Overall quality of the proposal\, 2) Relevant topic within the scope of the conference and specific track and 3) Provides significant evidence-based research and/or published articles. 4) Presenter qualifications. \nNot all submitted proposals may be invited to participate in the conference. DESCRIPTION:Fresno EOC Central Valley Against Human Trafficking project will host the 11th Annual Conference on Human Trafficking Be Free: Empowerment & Beyond on Wednesday\, March 25\, 2020. The conference will explore a multi-disciplinary approach to regional partnerships\, identification and recovery for victims of human trafficking in the Central Valley. The regional conference is open to the general public and an opportunity for concerned citizens\, victim service providers\, public\, legal and medical professionals\, law enforcement and government agencies\, social workers\, embassy and consulate staff\, faith and business leaders to be informed and congregate to support rights for victims and survivors. \n\nCentral Valley Against Human Trafficking (CVAHT) Central Valley Against Human Trafficking (CVAHT) provides awareness\, training\, technical assistance\, and advocacy about human trafficking and trafficking-related issues. Through Sanctuary and Youth Services’ other programs\, emergency shelter\, transitional housing\, case management\, transportation\, referrals\, and other assistance is provided to victims of all forms of human trafficking. CVAHT funded partners provide additional assistance to victims of human trafficking; including services for immigrants and victims of domestic violence. CVAHT leads the anti-trafficking effort throughout the Central Valley of California and consistently represents the region in state and nation-wide efforts. \nThrough partners and stakeholders\, Central Valley Against Human Trafficking (CVAHT) serves a six-county region including: Merced\, Madera\, Fresno\, Tulare\, Kings and Kern counties.

DESCRIPTION:For guys and gals ages 11 and up! \nJoin us for a 2-hour workshop for adults and youth in the same room. This workshop will unpack the connection between technology and trafficking\, particularly for teens and pre-teens. We’ll discuss vulnerability and exploitation\, and you’ll receive many resources for staying safe and understand how to recognize red flags. We’ll address the challenges of navigating social media and work on healthy communication strategies for teens and adults.  There will be time as a large group and breakout time as well as we seek to learn from those both alike and different from us. Come prepared to engage\, interact\, and create!
